Overview

Under the direction of the Director of Volunteer and Guest Services, oversees the operation of the Pastoral Care Services. Attends to spiritual concerns and provide emotional support to patients, families and the staff. Provides for specific religious/cultural needs through the department, local clergy and volunteers. Interacts with patients/residents and families, staff, members of management, volunteers and external agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and updates department policy and procedure manual.
  • Plans and manages pastoral care services budgets and expenditures.
  • Conducts quality audits as indicated.
  • Leads appropriate support groups (ex: Spiritual Inpatient Behavioral Health Support Group, Bereavement, Crisis Interventions, Caregiver).
  • Provides/coordinates formal prayer services for patients, visitors and staff.
  • Ensures chapel is appropriately maintained.
  • Provides staff in-services and other educational programs as necessary.
  • Coordinates events/holidays/rituals specific to the recognition of various faiths, i.e. memorial services.
  • Contributes to Bioethics Committee and Palliative Care Hospice.
  • Brings emotional and spiritual care to patients and families as needed by responding to referrals, requests, rounding, and attending discharge rounds, interdiscipline team meetings (i.e. Palliative Care).
  • Represents CentraState to local clergy community and coordinates with community clergy to provide follow-up and continued spiritual care and comfort to patients and families following discharge and in community, i.e. member of the Freehold Clergy Association.
  • Develops and assures a system for emergency call for spiritual crises situations.
  • Participates in divisional or System-wide initiatives by providing service and counsel in area of expertise.
  • Creates and maintains publications for departments.
  • Trains and educates other chaplains and volunteers as needed.

Qualifications

Education:

Masters of Pastoral Studies or equivalent (Theology, Divinity) from an accredited theology school. Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education required.

 

Work Experience:

Pastoral Experience in a Healthcare setting required

 

Licenses and Certifications:

Board Certified preferred

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare team
