CentraState Medical Center is currently seeking an RN Clinical Educator in the Emergency Department. Reporting to the Emergency Department Manager, this role serves as a preceptor for all newly hired nursing staff, including RN Residents. The Clinical Educator provides ongoing hands-on training through in-services, simulation labs, and direct patient care experiences. Responsibilities include ensuring clinical competencies are met, offering performance feedback to both the orientee and nurse manager, and authorizing the release of residents from orientation. The Clinical Educator also participates in unit councils to ensure that best practices inform all patient care policies, procedures, and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Administers culturally sensitive nursing care to assigned patients that is in accordance with ANA standards, the NJ Practice Act, Joint Commission, Emergency Nurse Association, professional standards and established hospital and Nursing Department policy and procedures in accordance with evidence-based nursing practice.
  • Enhances the current unit specific orientation process by creating focused ED orientation objectives and welcome binders for RN Residents, RNs, PCTs, HUCs, and Clinical Leaders. Nursing staff will experience hands-on comprehensive nursing skills, critical thinking, communication, and confidence to perform effectively as an essential member of the Emergency Department team with the necessary support to additionally improve morale and staff retention.
  • Acts as a preceptor providing continual hands-on experience for new RNs and RN Residents using a combination of in-services, shadowing experiences, continuing education, while assisting their patient care assignment.
  • In collaboration with the nurse manager, facilitates matching of preceptors and maintaining orientee schedules.
  • Monitors the progress of required online education modules to be completed by new hires prior to completion of orientation, and schedules education days to ensure compliance with educational requirements.
  • Ensures competencies are met for all new and current staff when introducing new therapies or technology.
  • Coordinates with professional development and management to arrange shadowing experiences for new hires to enhance clinical judgement and further develop new skills while also broadening the perspective and responsibilities of other members of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team.
  • Completes individualized assessments and provides written and verbal feedback to new RNs and RN Residents to identify performance goals, and specific length of time required on orientation.
  • Formulate an ED specific orientation reflection tool to be utilized as an individualized action plan to facilitate the planning and enhancement of a successful orientation with adequate support.
  • Creates an RN orientation learning needs assessment tool to be completed and posted weekly for nursing leadership to serve as a guide with creating staffing assignments to carry out identified performance goals.
  • Collaborates with ED leadership to ensure assignments will enhance learning, and further improve critical thinking skills necessary to work independently as a n ED nurse.
  • Meets biweekly with new staff and their assigned preceptors using the new reflection tool to discuss progress on set objectives, goals, strengths, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Continuously utilizes feedback from new staff to improve orientation practices related to changes in regulatory requirements for the future.
  • Re-evaluates staff individually with nurse manager and approves all new staff and RN residents to be released from orientation.
  • Participates in councils, committees and task groups as a team leader, facilitator (chairperson or co-chairperson), and member to improve patient care outcomes and ensure the use of evidence based practice is utilized in nursing care standards, processes, and principles.
  • Maintains documentation in accordance with Joint Commission, State Department of Health, and any other regulatory agencies.
  • Participates in ongoing processes for formulating, interpreting, implementing, and evaluating objectives, policies, and procedures of nursing care in accordance with ANA standards, the New Jersey Nurse Practice Act, JCAHO, specialty organizations and established hospital and Nursing Department policies and procedures in accordance with evidenced based nursing practice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required. MSN preferred.
  • Five years of nursing experience, including experience as an Emergency Department (ED) Registered Nurse, is required.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred. 
  • Current NJ RN License 
  • BLSL/ACLS/PALS required.
  • CEN Certification preferred.
  • Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Ability to develop nurse critical thinking through mentoring, teaching, and leading by example.
  • Serves as an expert resource and role model for all current staff and newly hired employees.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Compensation Range: $48.00 - $81.60 per hour

 

The compensation above reflects the established range from CentraState Healthcare System (CSHS) for this position at the time the job was posted. CSHS considers many factors to determine compensation, including education, experience, skills, licenses, certification, and training.  As such, team member compensation may fall outside this range. 

 

Additionally, the compensation range reflects base salary and does not include extra shift rates or incentives tied to quality, productivity, etc., as applicable.
