Overview

At CentraState Medical Center, the Ambulatory Services and Short Stay Unit (SSU) offers an appealing short-term healthcare environment with consistent eight-hour shifts and a Monday–Friday work week. These moderately paced units feature fast patient turnover and serve a diverse population, including post-surgical patients recovering from orthopedic, gastric bypass, urologic, and vascular procedures, as well as those receiving endoscopies. The MAB area includes five recovery rooms and five holding areas, with no on-call requirements.  Preadmission Testing includes one intake room and one lab room, also operating on a Monday–Friday schedule. With ample opportunities for cross-training and skill development, these units provide an ideal environment to launch or advance a career in ambulatory medicine.

 

CentraState Medical Center currently has an employment opportunity available for a Team Leader within Ambulatory Services. The Team Leader administers culturally sensitive nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with ANA standards, the New Jersey Nurse Practice Act, SPAN, The Joint Commission, and established hospital and Nursing Department policies and procedures, following evidence-based nursing practice. This role facilitates care for surgical patients by managing, coordinating, and monitoring resources to achieve optimal clinical and financial outcomes, resource utilization, and quality service. The Team Leader assists the manager in planning, directing, and supervising the overall operation of the assigned nursing unit on a 24-hour basis. Serving as a clinical resource and educator to department staff, the Team Leader supports the implementation of patient care and service goals established by senior management.

Responsibilities

  • Administers medications as needed following CSHS policies and manufacturer's instructions.
  • Takes immediate and appropriate actions in the event of a medication variance occurrence.
  • Recognizes adverse reactions to medications and takes immediate and appropriate actions.
  • Recognizes changes in patient condition and/or emergencies situations and takes immediate and appropriate actions.
  • Makes decisions that demonstrate knowledge of nursing practice; utilizes sound nursing judgment in clinical and patient care management situations.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills in the care of patients and in the coordination of care to assure the achievement of maximum outcome.
  • Assists in the development of department PI plans and reports.
  • Continually assesses and improves the care/services provided.
  • Maintains and updates Doctors' Preference Cards as needed.
  • Participates in meetings and committees as assigned.
  • Stays aware of departmental operations and recommends changes where necessary to optimize the quality of patient care and services provided.
  • Assesses patient needs, plans and delivers expert nursing care to selected patients on a regular basis.
  • Demonstrates an ability to organize and incorporate new routines, procedures, and skills.
  • Works with surgical services educator to establish an orientation and education plan for the specialty service and updates as clinical practices change.
  • Develops team-focused interaction among peers and staff.
  • Prepares and maintains policies and procedures.
  • Directs and/or performs troubleshooting of equipment and/or procedural problems including equipment repair.
  • Maintains adequate and appropriate inventories of supplies.
  • Manages and utilizes time efficiently.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of proper documentation.
  • Reports any unusual occurrences, situations, or hazards to appropriate personnel.
  • Identifies and submits potential non-capital equipment/supply needs.
  • Maintains open communication among perioperative team (i.e. surgeons/managers/ancillary staff).
  • Supports cost containment efforts of the hospital through conservation of supplies and care of equipment.
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining current knowledge and competency in areas of specialization.
  • Acts as preceptor to new employees as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Two years nursing experienced required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Current NJ RN License required.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Certification in specialty area required.
  • Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare team.

Compensation Range: $48.00 - $81.60 per hour

 

The compensation above reflects the established range from CentraState Healthcare System (CSHS) for this position at the time the job was posted. CSHS considers many factors to determine compensation, including education, experience, skills, licenses, certification, and training.  As such, team member compensation may fall outside this range. 

 

Additionally, the compensation range reflects base salary and does not include extra shift rates or incentives tied to quality, productivity, etc., as applicable.
