Overview

Endoscopy: Experience the highly appealing aspect of short-term healthcare. If you’re looking for a consistent schedule, eight-hour shifts, and a Monday-Friday work week, one of these units may be for you. Each of these units are moderately paced with a fast patient turnover. These units see a wide variety of patients, including post-surgical patients experiencing orthopedic, gastric bypass, urologic, and vascular surgeries, chemotherapy infusions, and endoscopies. The MAB area has 5 recovery rooms and 5 holding areas and has an appealing Monday-Friday schedule with no on-call. The outpatient infusion area has twelve chairs and has occasional on-call requirements. Preadmission Testing has one intake room and one lab room, and the appealing Monday through Friday schedule. With so many options and opportunities existing for cross-training and for learning and expanding your skillset in ambulatory care, these units are an ideal place to begin or further your career in ambulatory medicine.

 

CentraState Medical Center currently has an employment opportunity available for a Scrub Technician in the Endoscopy Unit. The Scrub Technician functions as a member of the endoscopy team under the direct supervision of the RN. Performs scrub tech duties on endoscopy cases and assists the physician and/or RN before, during, and after diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures. On-call coverage for off hours, weekends, and holidays is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains aseptic technique throughout diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures. Reports and breaks in technique to surgeon and circulator.
  • Reports any defective equipment immediately to Biomed department and to resource nurse.
  • Observes progress of procedure/surgery and demonstrates an ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and possible need for additional instruments and supplies.
  • Reprocesses scopes and maintains equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions, standards of infection prevention and institutional policies/procedures.
  • Stocks unit carts and supplies, maintains logs for code carts, airflow values, and refrigerator temperatures.
  • Opens sterile supplies using appropriate technique.
  • Labels all medications and solutions used on surgical field.
  • Arranges instruments and supplies properly for specific procedure.
  • Maintains surgical field in orderly fashion to facilitate accessibility and relief by another staff member.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the function of the sterilization and decontamination principles.
  • Provides considerate respectful care focused on the patients' individual needs.
  • Affirms the patient's right to make decisions regarding his/her medical care, including the decision to discontinue treatment, to the extent permitted by law.
  • Demonstrates the ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the needs of the age of the patients cared for. Demonstrates an understanding of the range of care needed based on the age of the patients cared for. Demonstrates knowledge of growth, development and /or adult health throughout the life span as appropriate to the job performed.
  • Performs patient care tasks including obtaining vital signs, emptying urinary catheters, maintaining a healthy and safe environment for patient, implementing the established plan of care in collaboration with the RN.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Successful completion of OR Technician program or graduate of accredited LPN program with NJ license required.
  • Previous related experience preferred.
  • Will train on advanced endoscopy procedures.
  • CPR Certification required. 
  • Surgical certification preferred.
  • Maintains annual CEU requirements as per NJ Department of Health.
  • Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare team.

Compensation Range: $23.00 - $36.80 per hour

 

The compensation above reflects the established range from CentraState Healthcare System (CSHS) for this position at the time the job was posted. CSHS considers many factors to determine compensation, including education, experience, skills, licenses, certification, and training.  As such, team member compensation may fall outside this range. 

 

Additionally, the compensation range reflects base salary and does not include extra shift rates or incentives tied to quality, productivity, etc., as applicable.
