Overview

Behavioral Health: If you’re looking to begin or further your career in the challenging, yet rewarding area of behavioral health, this humanistic, highly patient centered unit is for you. This full-service psychiatric unit has nineteen beds, with twelve of the beds dedicated to involuntary admissions and seven beds dedicated to short term care patients. The unit cares for adults eighteen and over experiencing a variety of psychiatric issues, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, patients with suicidal and homicidal ideation, and patients experiencing acute psychiatric crisis. Experience a unit that will be challenging yet fulfilling in a supportive and teamwork centered setting.

 

CentraState Medical Center currently has an employment opportunity for a Mental Health Therapist. This role provides psychiatric crisis intervention, therapy, referral coordination, and discharge planning for patients and clients of CentraState Healthcare System. Orientation and annual renewals include successful completion of non-violent crisis intervention training.

Responsibilities

  • Provides considerate respectful care focused upon the patients' individual needs.
  • Affirms the patient's right to make decisions regarding his/her medical care, including the decision to discontinue treatment, to the extent permitted by law.
  • Demonstrates the ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the needs of the age of the patients cared for.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the range of care needed based on the age of the patients cared for.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of growth, development and/or adult health throughout the life span as appropriate to the job performed.
  • Successfully completes life-span education as appropriate.
  • Interviews patients and/or family members as appropriate. Obtains a psycho-social history and assessment.
  • Identifies situations indicating possible abuse, dependencies, growth and development problems, and sexual orientation issues.
  • Appropriately analyzes all available data in formulating diagnostic impression.
  • Considers physical, psychosocial and educational needs in conjunction with a multi-disciplinary approach.
  • Consults psychiatrist as appropriate.
  • Develops appropriate treatment plan and priorities based on patient assessment and diagnosis and history of substance abuse.
  • Coordinates treatment plan with other healthcare providers and outside agencies as appropriate.
  • Provides clinical assessment and triage, makes appropriate referrals.
  • Provides crisis intervention counseling.
  • Recommends appropriate method or methods of therapy including individual, couple, family or group.
  • Accurately assesses the needs of the patients and appropriately triages crisis line calls.
  • Collaborates with other health care providers in planning and carrying out plans for providing services.
  • Assesses the patient and family educational needs and abilities and provides appropriate education.
  • Maintains knowledge of and professional relationship with agencies providing community and mental health services.
  • Recognizes need for services and refers patients and/or family members to appropriate agencies.
  • Collaborates with hospital staff and external agencies to arrange transportation and/or transfer.
  • Maintains required certifications and licenses.

Qualifications

  • Required Education:
    • A master's degree in a mental-health-related field from an accredited educational institution OR
    • Bachelor's degree in a mental-health-related field from an accredited educational institution, plus two years of experience in a psychiatric setting OR
    • Licensure as a registered professional nurse.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in mental health service preferred.
  • Certification in specialty area such as Certified Alcoholism Counselor preferred. 
  • CPR Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Psychiatric Social Work or related field required.
  • Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare team.

Compensation Range: $27.00 - $43.20 per hour

 

The compensation above reflects the established range from CentraState Healthcare System (CSHS) for this position at the time the job was posted. CSHS considers many factors to determine compensation, including education, experience, skills, licenses, certification, and training.  As such, team member compensation may fall outside this range. 

 

Additionally, the compensation range reflects base salary and does not include extra shift rates or incentives tied to quality, productivity, etc., as applicable.

 

The benefits outlined also reflect CSHS’ policy at the time of posting.  Benefits as are made available to other similarly situated team members of CSHS, although participation is at all times in accordance with and subject to the eligibility and other provisions of such plans and programs.
