CentraState Medical Center currently has an employment opportunity available for a Clinical Director of Pharmacy. This leadership role is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing the overall operations of the Pharmacy Department. The Clinical Director collaborates both within the department and as part of the broader Medical Center management team to implement patient care and service goals aligned with strategic objectives set by senior leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and monitors departmental Performance Improvement (PI), quality assurance, and quality control plans, ensuring measurable outcomes and continuous advancement of pharmacy services.
  • Directs the programs, operations, and activities of the department, ensuring effective collaboration and integration with other departments and the organization as a whole.
  • Leads change management initiatives and fosters a culture of innovation to enhance pharmacy operations, medication safety, patient outcomes, and service excellence.
  • Continuously evaluates and improves the quality, safety, and effectiveness of pharmacy services through the analysis of performance indicators, quality metrics, and patient outcomes.
  • Oversees departmental staffing, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation to optimize operational efficiency, financial performance, and patient care delivery.
  • Recruits, develops, mentors, and evaluates pharmacy leaders and staff, promoting professional growth, accountability, and high-performance standards.
  • Fosters a collaborative, inclusive, and engaged work environment that supports employee satisfaction, retention, and succession planning.
  • Identifies and implements opportunities for cost containment, operational efficiencies, revenue enhancement, and resource optimization while maintaining high-quality patient care.
  • Oversees pharmacy purchasing activities, contract management, inventory control processes, and vendor relationships to ensure fiscal responsibility and effective resource utilization.
  • Integrates departmental goals, initiatives, and services with the organization's mission, strategic objectives, and patient care priorities.
  • Maintains expertise in and ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, New Jersey Board of Pharmacy requirements, Joint Commission standards, CMS regulations, and USP Chapters 797 and 800.
  • Ensures ongoing regulatory and accreditation readiness through policy development, routine audits, staff education, competency validation, and implementation of best practices.
  • Collaborates with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize medication management processes, enhance patient safety, and improve clinical outcomes.
  • Evaluates, recommends, and implements emerging technologies, industry best practices, and pharmacy innovations to improve operational effectiveness and patient care.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for emergency preparedness, medication management contingency planning, and business continuity efforts to ensure uninterrupted pharmacy operations during emergencies or disaster situations.
  • Represents the department on organizational committees, quality councils, and leadership teams, contributing to strategic planning, performance improvement, and organizational decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Advanced Pharmacy degree required
  • A minimum of five years of experience in hosptial pharmacy required. 
  • A minimum of two years of experience in hositpal management required.
  • Active NJ Pharmacist license required. 
  • Board Certification (BCPS, BCACP, BCCCP, or equivalent) preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare regulatory standards.
  • Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop pharmacy staff while fostering a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

Compensation Range: $146,250 - $248,630 annually

 

The compensation above reflects the established range from CentraState Healthcare System (CSHS) for this position at the time the job was posted. CSHS considers many factors to determine compensation, including education, experience, skills, licenses, certification, and training.  As such, team member compensation may fall outside this range. 

 

Additionally, the compensation range reflects base salary and does not include extra shift rates or incentives tied to quality, productivity, etc., as applicable.

 

The benefits outlined also reflect CSHS’ policy at the time of posting.  Benefits as are made available to other similarly situated team members of CSHS, although participation is at all times in accordance with and subject to the eligibility and other provisions of such plans and programs.
