Responsibilities

  • To perform all carpentry/painting repairs, renovations, and installations for daily operations in a healthcare environment.
  • Provides and receives instructions and training in the proper method and process necessary to carry out carpentry/painting assignments.
  • Marks, cuts, and shapes materials to prescribed measurements accurately; assemble by fastening with nails, screws, dowels, or adhesives. Maintains and repairs hand or power tools and equipment of the carpentry trade by cleaning, oiling, setting, or other processes.
  • Installs, fits, and maintains door and cabinetry finished hardware such as locks, handles and hinges.
  • Performs a full range of carpentry assignments using independent judgment to make decisions requiring the application of procedures and practices to specific work situations.
  • Assists on all Snow/Ice activities including shoveling/plowing and ice melt.
  • Assists in emergencies and disaster calls in a timely manner.
  • Available to work per project required schedules, including variable days, variable shifts, variable shift durations, and weekends when needed.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum three (3) years working as a craftsman in a hospital, Commercial, or industrial working environment.
  • Must be experienced in all phases of rough and finish carpentry work including, but not limited to: Casework, Plastic Laminate Repairs, Wall framing, Door installation, drywall hanging and finishing, Painting, Wall papering, Ceiling framing (drop ceilings, soffits and hard ceilings), Concrete Placement and Formwork, Demolition (block and brick removal, metal stud and drywall removal, floor and ceiling removal), and carpet, ceramic tile, and resilient flooring installation and repair, insulating and fireproofing, caulking and grouting.
  • Must be able to read, understand and communicate in English is required.
  • Communication includes both verbal and written skills with the ability to communicate effectively with other tradesmen, peers, supervision, and staff. Simple mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division is required.
  • Must also have the ability to understand the concepts such as diameter, radius, and circumference, etc.
  • Must have the knowledge of standard methods, practices, principles, tools, and equipment used in the carpentry trade.
  • Strong mechanical skills and the ability to understand engineered drawings, field sketches, and specifications.
