Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Clinical Director, plans, directs and supervises the operation of assigned sections of the Laboratory. Works within the department as a part of the Medical Center's Management Team to operationalize the patient care and service goals and objective established by senior management.

  • Meets with appropriate administrative and professional staff to assure optimal provision of service. Identifies and implements changes to programs and activities that are not functioning optimally. Prepares documented/well-researched reports.
  • Participates in System-wide initiatives by providing advice and counsel in area of expertise, and working on committees as assigned.
  • Assists in the development of System-wide policy and procedure, using evidence-based references.
  • Maintains an adequate level of supplies to deliver quality patient care and customer service.
  • Works with Information Systems/LIS Coordinator to ensure accurate test menus and efficient reporting of test results.
  • Works with Finance to develop profit/loss statements.
  • Contacts prospective clients and regularly reviews existing accounts.
  • Receives satisfactory evaluation of performance/policies by accrediting agencies.
  • Develops/implements performance improvement plans for section and achieves desired results.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or other laboratory science required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • ASCP or HEW registration preferred.
  • Advanced certification in specialty area preferred.
  • Ten years experience in laboratory services required.
  • Ten years experience in lab section being supervised.
  • Previous management experience of 20 to 40 employees required.
  • Solid experience in statistics, report writing, financial calculations (ROI, profit/loss, cost per test).
  •  Hospital based experience is preferred.

Sitting; typing/filing; standing/walking; bending/climbing; stooping/kneeling; reaching at or below waist/above shoulder; lifting/pushing/pulling up to 40 pounds.
